Presidential Billiards Table Specifications
INFORMATION ON THE COMPANY
Presidential Billiards is the marketing arm of Wilson International, a large furniture manufacturing company based in Zimbabwe, and employs over 600 people. Although Presidential Billiards is fairly new to the US market, they are backed by a very large and well-established company, Wilson International which manufacturers fine furniture for the European and US market. They were established in 1958.
Unlike any other manufacturer we are aware of, Presidential Billiards is a fully vertically integrated company; they grow their own hardwoods, cut the timber, kiln dry it to their own requirements, manufacture the table and distribute it to the retailer, with no middle-men and a minimum of suppliers.
WOODS USED IN PRESIDENTIAL BILLIARDS TABLES
The tables are primarily made from an exotic African hardwood, namely African Teak with their "Value Line" manufactured from Tropical Conifer. All of the timbers are harvested under the strictest conservation guidelines from established hardwood plantations or designated forests. They do not cut from virgin forests or in any endangered habitat areas. The features of the individual woods follow:
AFRICAN TEAK
The African teak comes out of Presidential's own forest in the North Westem region of Zimbabwe. It is very strictly controlled by the Zimbabwe Forestry Commission. The forest is a multi-hardwood forest with about 100 species of which two species are currently being cut out of the forest. There is no clear cutting in the forest. Only certain size trees can be cut and all small trees are left to grow up through the forest canopy. The African Teak recoppices, which means that the tree will re-grow from the stump of the tree.
The timber is then transported to their sawmill where it is dried in computer controlled kilns to the desired moisture content. This means that the furniture will withstand all climatic conditions and will not split, crack or warp.
The African Teak is extremely hard, dense and durable and as a result these characteristics make almost an indestructible high quality furniture. It is highly scratch or dent resistant and consequently prolongs the beauty of the table. Additionally, the tight grain wood has great character and beauty. African teak is valued at twice that of mahogany and four times that of oak.
BUBINGA (African Rosewood)
Bubinga is an imported wood grown in West Africa. It is most commonly used as a veneer in quality furniture as it is highly decorative. It is also used in the manufacture of fine musical instruments.
TROPICAL CONIFER
This is grown extensively in Zimbabwe, and is similar to American Pine. It is a softer timber and may scratch and dent more easily. This is ideal for a customer who would like to purchase a solid wood table at an economical price.
TABLE CONSTRUCTION
The cabinet measures 1 1/4" in thickness and is joined together with sturdy metal brackets. The two cross beams and one long center beam interlock into one another and join directly in the cabinet side wall to create maximum rigidity. These thick beams increase the structural integrity of the table.
A one-piece slate support measuring nearly 1" in thickness is used to create a permanent level slate foundation. This slate support is manufactured out of Medium Density Fibre board (M.D.F.) as it is highly resistant to humidity changes and movement which makes it perfect for this purpose. The MDF board provides a highly regular and uniform surface, which further enhances the levelling of the slate.
The legs are attached to the cabinet using 2 hangar bolts in each leg, plus 2 wood screws at the outer edge of the leg to eliminate any possibility of movement. All components on the frame are bolted together using spring tension washers. Only premium grade hardware is used on all tables.
CARVING
Presidential Billiards tables are not only unique as a result of the exotic African hardwoods used but because of the extensive hand carving on our tables. Each table is unique. The carving is started by machine and then all the intricate work is done by hand.
CUSHION
The Cushions used on all of their tables are BCA tournament approved K-66 profile. Only top quality rubbers with canvas backing are used on our tables to ensure an incredibly accurate rebound.
POCKETS
Pockets are custom made by RC Designs and they are color stained to match the wood used, which enhances the overall beauty of the table.
FINISH
The billiard table is finished using only the best stains with pre-catalyzed wood lacquers to achieve an excellent uniform furniture finish.
SLATE
In order to have a quality playing surface for your table it is imperative to use a premium slate. All Presidential Billiard tables use a 1" slate. The thick slate is very heavy, weighing approximately 475 lbs. This is a benefit, as the mass adds stability and rigidity and will help prevent the table from moving when players lean on the table. However, it is extremely important to have a strong sturdy cabinet, such as a Presidential table has, to support this weight.
LIFETIME WARRANTY
Presidential Billiards warrants each billiard table (excluding cloth and pockets) against defect in material or workmanship (excluding normal wear and tear) for the life of the table with the original purchaser. Presidential Billiards will repair or replace, at its sole option, any or all parts proved to be defective.
